U.S. highway weight restrictions for a container may vary from state-to-state.  Check with the point/port of origin for more specific data on actual weight capacity.

As a general guideline, the following gross weight maximums should be adhered to in order to remain within the prescribed legal weight limits:

          20' - 38,500 lbs (17,235 kgs)
40'/40' HQ -43,500 lbs (19,730 kgs)
          45' - 45,000 lbs (20,400 kgs)

Divide cubic inches by 1,728 and then by 35.32.
(inch  x  2.54  =  cm)
(cm  x  0.39  =  inch)

6,000 c. c. = 1 kg       or     166 cu. in. = 1 lb

For international ocean shipment, 1 CBM is equivalent to 1,000 kg or 1 ton.
However, for US inland traffic, 1 CBM is just 800 pound.
